SMARTFORCE

The Coast Guard has partnered with SmartForce, the world's largest e-learning company today, providing online computer-related training solutions completely free to all members of Team Coast Guard.  This partnership allows you to take any of 1500 information technology courses over the Internet in the comfort of your own home.

The current policy states that eligible users of SmartForce are those listed in the CG Global address book.  To be included in the CG Global address book the member must first have a legitimate reason for being included, complete a security briefing, sign a security contract, and have an account set up for that user giving them access to the CGWEB (Intranet).  The only means for registration with SmartForce is via the CGWEB which in turn means that registration must be done via a Coast Guard workstation.  Once a member is registered, they can access the SmartForce program from any Internet connection.

The Office of the Coast Guard Auxiliary (G-OCX) is considering a change to the above policy for CG Auxiliarists because of the difficulty for a member to be given access to the CGWEB.  They are considering putting a list of eligible members together for registration.  Through G-OCX, this list would provide legitimacy for access, and an Auxiliarist would not have to be entered into the CG global.

As noted not every Auxiliarist has access to a Station III work station so here is an alternative procedure to sign up. Send an e-mail to the SmartForce administrator at SmartForce@tcyorktown.uscg.mil and give the administrator the following information:

First Name:

Last Name:

Home Phone:

Auxiliary number:

Flotilla Number:

The site can be logged on at http://www.smartforce.com/learning_community/ when you receive authorization.
